Plane trip

Plane trip from Bangkok to London

You always know the journey is going to be long. But you just can not plan to really understand such a long plane trip, restricted to such a small space. The first leg went well. We had the newer planes with individual movie screens. You could choose the movie you wanted to watch. I managed to watch 3 movies that I had not seen before. The boys, as you could imagine, were very excited about the flight and all the little gadgets. When we arrived at Thailand for the change in flight we had a long walk to the next terminal. It felt like 30mins. It would have been close. Unfortunately, we went though the gates without realising that there were no shops once though check-in. In Sydney there are shops galore and a TV to watch. Therefore we had a 2 hour wait in this terminal with metal sits and cold tiles floor with no entertainment of any sort. Our body clocks were also at 2am. The boys did very well considering they had had no sleep at this point.

Once on the next plane, the boys were disappointed as it was one of the older planes, therefore no TV screens. Only one big screen at the front and the boys were too short to really see. However, it was time to sleep. I managed to get asleep for a few hours. My body clock woke me up at about 9am Aussie time, 6am Thai time. At the moment the lights are still off on the plane. The boys are getting restless, although their electronic gadgets help to keep bored boys entertained.

Several hours later

Well; we made it. 31 hours after we took off from Mascot, we finally got into our hotel room (tired and smelly, but otherwise in remarkably good shape). The 1st leg to Bangkok was on a plane with the LCD screens in the back of each seat, so everyone can select their own, movies, music, games, etc. What a change from our last trip in 94! Sure makes the time fly (no pun intended). The boys handled the flights and stopovers (including a 1 and a half hour wait in the foyer before we could get into our rooms). Best practical joke of the trip: Riley (supposedly accidentally) spilling a full cup of water in my lap, so for the rest of the flight I looked like Mr Bladder Problem (and I suffered the wet undies to go with it). Rileys Random Rave

I’ve seen and learnt a lot since leaving Sydney. At the Heathrow airport there was this lady with a baby on her back. Except this baby had its legs spread right around the mothers waist. However, her waist was very wide. We were eating lunch/dinner( 4pm UK time) in England and this African man walked in with the most conspicuous suit I have ever seen. Both his pants and shirt were exactly the same. Gold coloured with black swirls everywhere. One thing I don’t get is the currency exchange. Why can’t it just be $1 = £1. Our hotel room is pretty good. TVs, beds, the usual. And that’s the daily random rave.

Eamon’s Adventures

The best thing about the flight was the TV the movies and the food. I watched Water Horse and cartoons. On the second flight we saw hundreds of wind turbines over Belgium.

Es todo (that’s all)
